Propitas have recently completed the refurbishment of Waterstones’ flagship store and HQ at 203-206 Piccadilly. This iconic Grade II* listed building, noted as one of the Stars of Modernist Architecture in Britain, and designed by architect Joseph Emberton opened in 1936 as Simpsons of Piccadilly, then the largest menswear store in Britain. The current interior is of course fitted out to suit Waterstones’ bookseller operations.

Propitas acted as Contract Administrator and Principal Designer for the project which included repairs to the steel structural frame, repairs and restoration to the Portland Stone façade, repairs and waterproofing to roof elements and full redecoration of the exterior. Structural advice was provided by Perega and the works were completed by Chrisalis Refurbishment.
